Hello all,
I wrote my PRINCE2 2009 foundation examination in London on 18 Sep 2009. I did pretty well. I passed got 60 out of 70 marks
It all started a month before when I dreamt of becoming PRINCE2 certified project manager. As you all know me, I didnt have any second thought. I was on the job straight. I booked the exam for 18 Sep 2009 as I wanted to give four weeks preparation time for me considering my full time job and the time which I need to allocate for my family. Then I searched for a good deal for the PRINCE2 book and I got a good deal in Gumtree for 45 GBP. I met the person in Bank Tube station and collected the book.
I wanted to prepare for the exam in a unique way so the learning can be effective. I chose MindMaps method for my preparation.
As I read a chapter, I MindMapped it.
I also related the techniques, principles, processes, themes of PRINCE2 to my job functions and it was very effective.
Once I completed my reading, MindMaps, referencing - I started visualization of teaching this principles to various people and I helped them to understand the stuff using real life examples like "Project Marriage", "Project House Building", "Project vacation", and this technique helped me to challenge myself with the questions on the concepts and as a teacher I answered more convincing responses.
I just took only one model exam in the offical site and it helped me to have a feel of the exam.
On the day of exam on 18 Sep 2009, I was in London Radisson hotel around 9.15 AM and found 15 people already waiting for the exam. All were very busy in final preparations, but I didnt opened the book. I was relaxed and opened up some conversation with hotel receptionist to pass my time.
As time progressed, we entered the exam hall around 9.40 AM and met the examiner Mr John and he facilitated with startup process of filling some forms, explained the answering guidelines.
As the clock reached 10.10 AM - we started and the question papers were issued to us.
Before starting, I thanked god in advance for helping me clear the exam with flying colors.
As I started answering, 30 minutes went in a fly. I completed 45 questions out of 75 questions. In the first 30 minutes, I used a different approach i.e., I read the question and I thought of a answer and verified whether it was in the list of answers.
In the next 20 minutes I completed 20 questions and in this I used the traditional way where I read the question and I chose the most appropriate answer from the list.
In the next 5 minutes I completed the rest of 10 questions.
Most of the questions are related to principles like Business case, lessons learned, manage by stage, manage by exception, roles, focus on products, and fewer questions on themes.
All the questions related with stages are linked again with principles.
I didnt find any question on tailoring prince2 to project environment.
Overall I am happy with the way I prepared and took the exam successfully.
Its time for gratitude.
I should thank my family for supporting me in my preparation and I shoud thank my friend Deepak who gave me some good tips.
Anyone interested to get training from me on PRINCE2, please write to me and we can sort out that.
I plan to write PRINCE2 practioner exam by Oct 2009. Shall write on that soon.
Cheers
Prem

Best of luck for the results.
MindMap is indeed a good approach to prepare for this exam.
I’m also writing this PRINCE2 foundation exam this October. Let me also try this technique.
Well done for passing, enjoyed reading your experience, I’m sure you;ll succeed the Practitioner’s, go for it!
Dear Bharath
Let me know whether you need any specific training. I can help you out

Hi Prem
Thank you very much for posting your comments on this wesite, you really inspired me. Thank you
I just purchased the prince 2 book this afternoon and i am planning on writting at the end of October 2009.
Please explain further the mind mapping technique you used to study, I am sure it would help me too…
Thanks Again
Regards Becky
I did the 2009 Pract. and FAILED!! only 3 points short of the pass grade! The questions are not simple multiple choice they have multiple multiple choice and getting 1 wrong get the entire question wrong. I guess you either know it or you don’t. I found it very different to the previous 2007 and didn’t gell with it. I will attempt it again but with more revision and ground work.
Onward and Upward!

Hi Prem,
Congrats and thanks for the guidance.Did you get any form of exam simulators or have you got any info that you could share with me please.
Hi,
Further to Alan Britain’s email,
I did a 75 sample Prince2 Foundation Exam paper yesterday (October 21 2009) which I passed. I did the official exam 30 minutes later only to fail it!!! - Got 33 questions correct but needed 35 to pass the exam.
Afterwards the instructor advised me to re-sit it again straight after I failed the first one. I actually did worse as this was the 3rd exam I’d done that afternoon - 225 questions later :-S The instructor then said you won’t be able to continue on with the Prince2 Practitioner exam as I needed to pass the Foundation exam first and advised me to study for the foundation exam again tomorrow (October 22 2009) at home and come in on Friday to re-sit it along with everyone else who would be doing the Practitioners Exam. I was happy with this agreement.
Datrix Training then phoned me this afternoon (October 22 2009) after I’d put in a lot of home study only to say I couldn’t sit the exam as the exam paper wasn’t available and that it wasn’t the instructors place to say this. This really wasn’t my problem. Anyway I’ve asked for my money back for the 2 days they told me not to come in to their training facility.
The Datrix Advisor said he would contact me sometime next week about it. Personally I think I’ve lost my money for those 2 days which equates to £412. I start a new job next week and won’t be able to do this course again for quite a while so want my money back. I’m not holding out much hope.
Hope one of you can advise
Kind regards,
Paul
