Top 10 questions project manager should ask

Hello all,

I think that project manager’s ability to probe and question would really make or break a project success. I have list a top 10 questions a project manager should ask. It is purely based on my experience. All I need you to validate and add in case you think different

1. What is the business case for this project? Why are we doing this project? Is this project really required?

2. What are we going to deliver? What are the business products we are going to deliver?

3. What is the budget?

4. When am I supposed to deliver this project? Is there any time constraint?

5. Who are my stakeholders?

6. What are the quality criteria for the project?

7. What is that I need to communicate? To whom? When? In what format?

8. What are the tolerance limits for my project?

9. What am I suppose to do if I foresee the tolernance voilation?

10. Does the project delivered to users really useful?

    How about adding,

    How will this project affect the Profit and Loss Account Bottom Line Figures?

    Both the current year and subsequent years.

    The ten is limiting. Questions that ten covers are mostly covered by the clients themselves and not left for the project manager and hence project manager need to set answers to these ten and create 100 to get answer to these ten

    My check list for project initiation has 20 pages of questions and that is still not enough

    It depends entirely on what the situation is at the time and who you’re talking to. The only question I’d ask every time is the one about the business case. After that, it’s down to experience of particular types of situation. Assuming that you’re taking on management of a project from a previous incumbant of the same role, the two that spring immediately to mind are:

    1. What are the details of main project risks we’re running with?

    2. Where are the project files and what protocols are in place (config management) for being able to read and change them?
