Why Is The Planning Process So Important In The Project Scope Management?

Without a plan you would be running around helter-skelter every time you came upon a problem. You would have to stop and try to figure out what happened and what to do next. In fact without a plan you might have a huge problem and not even know it for sometime.
With a good plant. You have explored all the possibilities and alternatives and chosen the best path to follow. Of course a good plan also have alternative paths at certain points if there is a problem with the first path. This is the famous “Plan B” and is as important as “Plan A” as all of us who have had to use Plan B can testify.

In the planning phase, it is vital for the project team to understand what the goal of the project will be and how each member will work to fill that goal. If one team member does not know what is expected of them, the entire project may be in jeopardy. If the owner cannot communicate their intent to the architect, how can the architect know what to tell all the other consultants? When the initial communication is not clear, the details will eventually come out and it will probably mean that someone on the team will have to rework their solution to accommodate the revision.

Because you have to start somewhere and need to estimate things like time, cost, materials requirement, and manpower requirements. Things like permitting, and ES&H impacts need to be established.
