The Lazy Project Manager - Peter Taylor

I had a good evening today reading a book called "The Lazy Project Manager" by Peter Taylor. Peter is my LinkedIN connection and he shared his new book "The Lazy Project Manager" for my review. I got my signed copy of the book couple of weeks before but since I was busy with my PRINCE2 exam preparation I couldnt open the book until today.

Now, coming to the book. When I heard the title of the book I took a step back. He dramatized his book title with an adjective called Lazy. Usually if you see all the best sellers project management books there would be titles like brillant PM, effective PM, successful PM. But this is the first time I heared a negative title Lazy PM. But he justifies it in his book that Lazy is to be related with productive and life/work balance. I was impressed.

The book design is very simple and the layout of the book is very reader friendly. The language used in the book is very simple and no jargons were used. I really like it.

The concept of the book is revolve around productivity and he has split the project phase as Beginning, Middle and the end. He states that for a PM there would be much to do in the beginning and the end of the project and the work load would be thin in the middle.

In his book, he strongly suggest to begin the project correctly and suggests the PM to have greater control and command over the project in the beginning.

In his book, he strongly recommends the PM to delegate as much as possible but still have the control over the project and its progress. He stresses the importance of having a greater team and having fun at work.

To summarize, this book gives a different perception of a project manager’s job and what best can he do to go home early and at the same time be productive as twice as possible.

I can be 4 stars out of 5 and I feel that this book can be prized at 9.99 GBP instead of 14.99 GBP so it can have a greater reach. Hopefully Peter and his publishers consider it in next editions of this book.
